To Overcome Is A Choice But, from time to time, a scripture is revealed that sticks in your mind and really makes you think. "Wow, is he talking to me?" In my case, that unforgettable passage was Deuteronomy 30:19.
When I first heard Deuteronomy 30:19, I was a bit caught off guard. I was over 30 and had been in church all of my life and never heard this passage. I thought, "You mean to tell me I'm making a choice everyday to live or die?" In a way it sounded too simple and overly dramatic. But, the more I thought about it, the more I considered the concept and the more revelation I received. Every single day, I make life and death choices.
C'mon, why would I choose anything but life?", "Why, in my right mind, would I do something to destroy myself?" Good questions. God is probably asking the very same thing when he sees us make wrong decisions. Right and wrong are set before us and we have free will to pick and choose. Lest we should be confused, about choosing between the two, God prompts us by saying, "Choose LIFE". And then He goes further to explain why we should choose life, so that we and our children may LIVE. You're probably thinking, "Can it really be that serious?", "Am I really choosing death?", "That sounds a little far-fetched". "Am I really putting future generations at risk?" We Decide Each Minute of Every Day Okay, let's bring it home to our everyday lives. Have you ever chosen to do something even though you knew it was bad for you? What about eating that entire chocolate cake right before your insulin injection? Or smoking two packs a day even though your lungs are worn out? How many times have you said you were giving up that abusive relationship, but still you continue to go back for more? We choose unhealthy relationships with people, places, and things, when we know they are leading us to destruction. Our children learn from us and continue in the same destructive behavior-leading their deaths. But it doesn't have to continue. God gave us the answer to the problem- Choose Life. In order to overcome, we must be liberated from bad habits, toxic relationships, and negative influences. All of these things keep us from making right choices. From a "friend" encouraging you to sleep around, to a relative cohersing you into using drugs. You have to make a choice and that choice must be LIFE. A life that is full, healthy, peaceful, and fruitful. A life where we choose to let go of people, places, and things we know are hurting us. It's a choice.
Power to overcome can only come from the Father. The battle is not ours, it's the Lords. Remember "greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world". The God in us, will arise and fight our battles. In John 16:33, Jesus said, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." Hallelujah!
Satan wants to destroy you, but God has an exciting future in store for you. His word says he has begun a good work in you and He is faithful to complete it. Satan cannot stop God's plan for your life, only you can do that. When you choose to overcome your obstacle, God is ready to help you. And the Holy Spirit is an ever available comforter when you get discouraged. Every step of the way, He is there. And He will send people of faith across your path to minister and support you during your journey. People who have overcome and conquered what you are facing. Experience Is A Good Teacher I'm going to share with you some of the challenges that I have overcome and I hope that you are encouraged to conquer your own demons.
